What Is Partial Demolition?

Partial demolition is deconstruction and removing the walls and sections of an old house to open up a space for expansion or remodeling. This can happen in an old kitchen, living room or dining room in need of a complete revamp. Or when the homeowner needs to remove rooms, roofs and walls to add an outdoor or indoor extension or when there is damage to a section of the house in case of fire that needs to be completely demolished and rebuilt.

In addition, there might be external structures you want to get rid of such as an old carport or an old shed.

When you demolish a section of the house, you have the opportunity to restore it with new materials, doors, and windows to change the look of your house.

It needs to be considered that sometimes it is cheaper to demolish and rebuild than to renovate. Older buildings often have unexpected obstacles that can arise during renovation so it is wise to consider a fund saved aside just in case.

To start a safe partial demolition, a careful process needs to be considered to avoid any damage to the rest of structure. As walls are the supporting skeletons of the house they should not be removed without consulting a professional!

Another major consideration is the presence of asbestos in the buildings built before 1990’s. Before any disturbance to the building, consulting an asbestos professional is highly recommended. If any asbestos found in the structure, the removal and dispose of it has to be done by licensed professionals.
